Owl Class

Welcome to Owl Class!

We are a class of reception children taught by Mrs Baimbridge (Mon-Wed) and Miss Gallone (Thur-Fri) with one member of full-time support staff (Mrs Miller).

We attach great importance to child-initiated learning and developing children’s creativity, critical thinking and problem solving skills as part of our provision of a broad and balanced curriculum.  We believe that working with families is a key factor in achieving these aims. For children in Reception we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum. The EYFS has the child at its centre, our planning starts with observing the children in order to understand and consider their current interests, development and learning.

P.E.

PE is on Monday mornings for our class. Please ensure your child’s PE kit is in school for this day as they will learn to get undressed and dressed into their PE kits as part of the self-care Early Learning Goal.
PE Kits need to include;

  • a pair of black shorts
  • a red t-shirt
  • a pair of black plimsoles (for indoor PE)
  • a pair of black joggers
  • black tracksuit top
  • trainers (for outdoor PE).
  • Spare socks if your child is wearing tights to school.

Please note commercially available Team Kits (Football Team shirts and shorts etc.) are not allowed.

We make sure we look smart and are ready to learn by limiting jewellery to one pair of earlobe studs. These must be removed by ourselves during PE (or covered with micro-pore tape supplied by our parents). Make-up, nail varnish and large hair accessories (e.g. Jo-Jo bows) are not allowed. Any hair bands or clips must reflect the school colours of red / grey / black / white.

Home/School Reading Books

Your child will have two reading books a week to read at home. Books will be changed once a week, usually on the same day. Please see the reading information sheet inside your child’s reading wallet for more information on how you can help to support your child with their reading at home. Library Time is every Friday afternoon. Please ensure that your child’s book is returned every week.

Tapestry

EYFS children will have an online learning journal on Tapestry.  Parents/carers will be able to view all observations, photographs and videos from their child's time in Early Years. This enables parents/carers to follow their child’s progress closely and allow them to reflect upon their child's achievements with them. Parents/carers can also add their own comments and photos from home that we will share as a class.

Payment for Trips/Activities

When your child brings a letter or monies into school, please help us to process it efficiently by sending it in a named envelope in their bookbag or directly to the school office.

Please could you ensure that all of your child’s belongings are named (including ties, water bottles, bookbags, lunchboxes!), as this should help your child’s belongings to be returned to them if lost or misplaced.
Any lost property found will be put in the box in our cloakroom.

Throughout the year, we share photographs and school news via X (formerly Twitter: @ClipstonSchool), showing various activities, inside and outside the classroom that we have enjoyed! Please visit us and follow our page for regular updates. (You do not need to be a member of X, or follow us, in order to do this.)
We look forward to welcoming you to Owl class this year!
