Woodpecker Class

Welcome to Woodpecker Class! We are a class of Year 5 and 6 children with two members of support staff working with us every morning (Mrs Janice Glover and Ms Preedy) and one on three afternoons a week (Mrs Janice Glover).

As members of the eldest class in school we are given greater responsibilities across the school, being monitors for: registers, assembly and class newspaper deliveries. Year 6 can also nominate themselves to become House Captains for the school.

We have lots of fun and cover a range of curriculum areas in our topic work. Here are some of the topics we have studied in the last couple of years:

We have also enjoyed many school trips, including visits to:

Throughout the year we also take part in the school’s Harvest Festival, Christmas Carol Concert and Easter Service, often at our village church. Year 5 and 6 usually put on an end of year musical production for the community and parents too.

Homework is set every Friday and completed by the following Wednesday. We also have a weekly spelling test and a multiplication/division fact test every week.

We have PE on a Wednesday afternoon so we need to have our kit in school on this day. We have lots of space for our belongings: individual lockers, pegs AND drawers! We all write in blue handwriting pens or fountain pens (NOT biros).

We make sure we look smart and are ready to learn by limiting jewellery to one pair of earlobe studs. These must be removed by us during PE (or covered with micro-pore tape supplied by our parents). Make-up, nail varnish and large hair accessories (e.g. Jo-Jo bows) are not allowed. Any hair bands or clips must reflect the school colours of red / grey / black / white.

Throughout the year, we share photographs and school news via Twitter (@ClipstonSchool), showing various activities, inside and outside the classroom that we have enjoyed! Please visit us at www.twitter.com/ClipstonSchool (you do not need to be a member of Twitter, or follow us, in order to do this).
